With Indigo Park only having one Chapter so far, it's difficult to confirm any lore for the game, and there are still many theories left unanswered.
Chapter 1 opens with an old promotional / intro tape of Isaac Indigo welcoming people to the park ; that footage frames the whole experience as the remains of an optimistic dream. The playable protagonist (Ed) watches that tape at home and then sneaks into the abandoned park at night, which sets the mood : nostalgia.
Once Ed is inside, the park’s tour-AI, Rambley the Raccoon, wakes up and cheerfully registers Ed as “the first guest in 2,920 days.” Rambley becomes your in-game guide, handing out the Critter Cuff (an RFID wristband), explaining basic systems, and shepherding you toward attractions while trying hard to keep the feeling of a fun visit alive. The Critter Cuff is also a gameplay gate-key — and a lore object that hints at how the park’s safety / automation once worked.
Many theories suggest that Rambley is the "bad guy" or that he's hiding something. This isn't the case : in fact, the developer (UniqueGeese) has publicly reacted to theory videos and, according to community posts, has repeatedly stated that Rambley is not intended to be the obvious final villain. So, maybe he's hiding something, but he's not the "big villain." (YouTube - UniqueGeese)
This theory interprets the Rambley Rush arcade minigame (where Salem’s potions corrupt squirrels) as in-universe evidence that Salem experimented with mind-control or biochemical tampering that later escaped containment and devastated the park. (Reddit - JustinTHuntAuthor)
The mascots were mistreated, or were experimental organic mascots that snapped and attacked staff / guests — a classic “workers / creatures rebel” explanation. Supporters cite scrapings of audio, damaged animatronics, and in-world hints of tension (old recordings, plaques, and backstage memorabilia) as signs that something internal to park operations went very wrong. A more cinematic theory : the park’s engineers tried to preserve Isaac Indigo inside a computer body and Rambley is the emergent, imperfect consciousness (a GLaDOS-type preservation). That would explain Rambley’s odd mixture of tender memory and brittle childishness. (Reddit - JustinTHuntAuthor)
The Critter Cuff protected us from a Lloyd attack in Chapter 1: maybe a Lloyd-specific safety feature installed by park engineers. So maybe the Critter Cuff has other hidden features that we'll discover in the future. (Fantime Horror)
